Adult Programs Coming to Manchester Library in February

MANCHESTER – The Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library will host a variety of programs for adults throughout February.

  • “Chess Club” 12 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 1, 8, 15, and 22. Play chess in a relaxed atmosphere and share your love for the game with beginners. Participants may bring their own game set. No registration required.
  • “Writer’s Circle” 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 5 and 19. Critique one another’s work and discuss issues pertinent to authorship and getting published. No registration required.
  • “Movie Wednesdays” 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 6, 13, 20, and 27. See movies on the big screen without the admission fee of a movie theater. Call 732-657-7600 or visit theoceancountylibrary.org/events for film information. No registration required.
  • “Chicks with Sticks” 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 6, 13, 20, and 27, and 2 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 14 and 28. Work on individual crocheting projects while sharing ideas and patterns and forming friendships. No registration required.
  • “Beginning Ballet for Adults” 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7. Experience the joy of dancing in this class which combines dance and exercise specifically for adults with no prior dance experience. Learn the basic ballet positions and how to achieve correct posture, muscle usage, balance, and grace. Participants should wear socks or ballet slippers as well as comfortable clothing. Participants must sign a release waiver prior to participating.
  • “Quilting Bee” 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 and 22. Work on individual group projects while exchanging ideas, patterns, techniques, and conversation. No registration required.
  • “Advanced French Club” 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11. This is primarily a conversation group which discusses topical events in French, reads and discusses French texts, and engages in other French-oriented activities. It is geared toward individuals who are more fluent in the language.
  • “Intermediate French Club” 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12. Improve and understand French vocabulary, grammar, and basic conversation with the help of a French-American librarian. This meeting will go over how to create sentences using reflexive verbs.
  • “Calming Coloring” 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15. Spend a relaxing afternoon creating, listening to soothing music, and relaxing with likeminded adults. Coloring sheets, pencils, markers, and crayons will be supplied free of charge. Aroma therapy and a visit from a therapy dog may also be provided.
  • “Book Chat” 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. Discuss what you have been reading with the rest of the group and pick up ideas for what to read next. No registration required.
