Examine American Revolution’s ‘Ten Crucial Days’ at Ocean County Library Toms River Branch

November 07, 2022

TOMS RIVER – George Washington’s crossing of the Delaware River led to three quick victories that changed the Colonies’ fortunes in the War for Independence. Historical interpreter Tom Maddock will chronicle “Ten Crucial Days of the American Revolution” at the Ocean County Library Toms River Branch, 2 PM Wednesday, November 30.

Maddock, a member of the Friends of Washington Crossing Park, will describe events as they occurred from the crossing on the night of December 25, 1776, through the Battle of Princeton on January 3, 1777.

The three battles in which the Continental Army prevailed brought the upstart colonies back from the brink of defeat, and ensured that the Revolutionary War would continue.

Today, the spot where Washington forded the river is a preserved area, maintained by the Friends of Washington Crossing Park. Each year, thousands of onlookers watch the re-enactment and hear timeless speeches such as the General’s address to his troops.

Registration at www.theoceancountylibrary.org/events is required to attend this free program in Mancini Hall. For more information, visit the Branch, 101 Washington Street, or call (732) 349-6200.
