March 24, 2026

BRICK – The Brick Branch of the Ocean County Library will host “Childhood Under Nazism: Art, Memory, and Resistance” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14. Presenter Zoey Guarino, Director of Conflict Resolution and Anti-Bias Initiatives at the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, will present on children of the Holocaust.

This deeply moving program will discuss the Hitler Youth, the League of German Girls, and of course, child victims in ghettos and concentration camps. Participants will examine artwork done by children in Theresienstadt at the direction of Friedl Dicker-Brandeis, a former art teacher who believed art therapy would help children understand and process their environment. Stories of resistance will be highlighted, from smuggling food to organizing underground newspapers and pamphlets.
