Learn About New Jersey’s WWI Commemorative Monuments at Toms River Library

October 15, 2019

TOMS RIVER – The Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library will host “Honoring NJ Veterans: Artistry of Remembrance” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20.

Discover New Jersey’s major monuments of World War I and the artists who created them.

History advocate Erik Burro will present the program, dedicating it to the late Ocean County Freeholder John C. Bartlett, Jr., who passed away last December at the age of 71.

Erik Burro is founder of Pennjerdel House, focused on New Jersey’s past. Burro’s involvement with WWI monuments has influenced support for preservation efforts. Burro’s travelling photo exhibition “NJ Doughboys,” featuring over 50 doughboy monuments, has been shown statewide.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Ocean County Library – Toms River.

The McConnell Gallery of the Toms River Branch is showcasing Burro’s exhibition on the pre-English settlements of South Jersey throughout the month of October.

The branch is located at 101 Washington Street.

Registration is required for this free event. To register, call the branch at 732-349-6200 or visit theoceancountylibrary.org/events.
