Manchester Library Announces Featured Events for March

MANCHESTER – During March, the Ocean County Library Manchester Branch will offer many free activities for adults. Programs for education, entertainment and well-being will take place in the branch’s newly renovated meeting room.

“Harriet’s Long Journey: Life of Harriet Tubman.” 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 4.  Lorraine Stone will bring history to life by portraying Harriet Tubman. Dressed in period-style clothing, she will relate Tubman’s story of leading 13 rescue missions on the Underground Railroad.

“Simply Soup.” 2 p.m. Friday, Mar. 6. Warm up as Perlmutter Shoprite nutritionist Jennifer Klein makes delicious and healthy soups to sample, and teaches how to make them at home.

“Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis: Preservation and Grace, an American Legacy.” 2 p.m. Monday, Mar. 16.  Jill Lawrence’s interpretive performance will shed light on the tireless efforts for public good by the woman we know as “Jackie O. Her personal and professional struggles and victories create a poignant portrait of the First Lady, wife, mother and activist. Sponsored by the Friends of the Manchester Branch and the New Jersey Council for the Humanities Public Scholars Project.

“The Life of a Pointe Shoe.” 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 18. Follow the evolutionary journey of the classic ballet slipper from factory to stage, and the see the meticulous preparation and care that professional ballerinas lavish on their shoes.

“Sons of Wexford Irish Celebration.” 2 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 21. The Central Jersey based Sons of Wexford band specializes in classic Irish, Celtic and American folk music. With their unique blend of instrumental melodies and rich vocal harmonies the Doyle family band is sure to have you dancing and singing along. No registration required.

“Learn to Folk Dance.” 10 a.m. Tuesday, Mar. 24. This fun, easy class will introduce you to the richness and variety of international music and dance from countries such as Norway, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, India and more. No dance experience is necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
