Monthly Activities for Adults at Manchester Library

MANCHESTER – The Manchester Branch of the Ocean County Library will host its regularly scheduled programs throughout December.

“Book Chat” 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20. Participants will discuss what they’ve been reading with the rest of the group and pick up ideas for what to read next. No registration required.

“Chess Club” 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 and 12 p.m. Fridays, Dec. 14, 21, and 28. Play chess in a relaxed atmosphere and share your love for the game with beginners. Participants may bring their own game set. No registration required.

“Chicks with Sticks” 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 5, 12, 19, and 26 and 2 p.m. Thursdays, Dec. 13 and 27. Participants will work on individual knitting and crocheting projects and share ideas and patterns and form friendships. No registration required.

“Quilting Bee” 1 p.m. Fridays, Dec. 14 and 28. Participants will work on individual and group projects while exchanging ideas, patterns, techniques, and conversation. No registration required.

“Writer’s Circle” 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Dec. 4 and 18. Critique one another’s work and discuss issues pertinent to authorship and getting published. No registration required.

“Advanced French Club” 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3. The group will screen and discuss the film “Les femmes du 6e étage” (The Women of the Sixth Floor). With the exception of this December meeting, this program is usually open only to advanced speakers of the French language. It is primarily a conversation group to discuss topical events in French, read and discuss French texts and engage in other French-oriented activities.

“Beginning/Intermediate French Club” 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4. Study the basics of the French language: vocabulary, grammar, and basic conversation. Our French-American librarian will coach participants with vocabulary, grammar, and accent. This meeting will cover customs and traditions of various December holidays in France.

“Beginning Ballet for Adults” 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6. Experience the joy of dancing in this class that combines both dance and exercise specifically for adults with no previous dance experience. Learn the basic ballet positions and how to achieve correct posture, muscle usage, balance, and grace while having fun. This class will use selections from Tchaikovsky’s famous composition, “The Nutcracker.” Participants should wear socks or ballet slippers and comfortable clothing. Signing a release waiver is required before participation.
