Ocean County Library Marks 95th Anniversary With Video Presentations

October 01, 2020

TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County Library’s 21 branches and reading centers celebrate 95 years of “connecting people…building community…transforming lives” with a series of videos, now displayed through the Library’s website and YouTube channel.

The 95th Anniversary collection is a series of vignettes, spotlighting each branch and the relationships that they share with their surrounding communities. They can also be viewed at www.theoceancountylibrary.org/shore-view.

The original Ocean County Library welcomed its first patrons September 19, 1925, in the modest Lonan Building on the County Courthouse grounds in Toms River. A specially-outfitted truck brought books to patrons among the county’s 28,000 residents.

Today, OCL serves nearly 600,000 people in 32 communities. More than 4,600,000 print, video and audio items are circulated each year. An Ocean County Library card means access to all 21 locations, and also opens a world of eBooks and online resources.

In addition to YouTube, the Library regularly updates patrons about programs, initiatives, virtual appearances and games through Facebook and Instagram.

The OCL 95th Anniversary videos can be seen at www.theoceancountylibrary.org/shore-view.
