TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County Library is pleased to host Forgotten Places, an exhibit by Ocean County-based photographer Rob Rielly, in the Toms River Branch throughout the month of April.
The collection, which will occupy the Second Floor Gallery, consists of traditional and digital photographic images, created through a variety of techniques and methods.
Rob’s previous Ocean County Library exhibit led to his inclusion in OCL’s Meet The Artist video series, which can be seen on the Library’s website and YouTube channel. His images have been displayed at Ocean County College, and in galleries in Manhattan, Red Bank, Shrewsbury, Belmar, and Montclair, and Doylestown and Eagle, Pennsylvania.
“Photography may be divided into two broad categories, Reactive and Pro-active,” Rob said. “Reactive photography takes place when the photographer sees something interesting, and reacts by taking an image with a camera. Pro-active photography is a product of the photographer’s mind. The photographer imagines something and seeks to create the image.”
“Pro-active photography is much easier in modern times since we have digital programs with which we may create interesting images,” he continued. “In my work, I use both. Some of the images in this exhibit are strictly film productions, while others rely heavily on Photoshop.”
Forgotten Places is free and open to the public during normal Branch operating hours. For more information, visit www.theoceancountylibrary.org/events, stop by the Toms River Branch, 101 Washington Street, or call (732) 349-6200.
