Veterans Day Commemorative Photo Exhibit & Lecture At Ocean County Library Long Beach Island Branch

October 28, 2022

SURF CITY – New Jersey is home to nearly 300 monuments that commemorate World War I, the point of origin for what we now call Veterans Day. Historian Erik Burro’s photo exhibit of the memorials, ”Legacy of Remembrance,” will be on display throughout the month of November in the Ocean County Library Long Beach Island Branch.

Additionally, Mr. Burro will discuss the significance of the statuary and the origins of his exhibit, 2 PM Friday, November 18.

Initially called “The Great War,” the international struggle was unprecedented in scope, with devastating numbers of casualties, until the signing of the Armistice on November 11, 1918.

The public history advocate from the Library Company of Burlington will speak about the creation of his exhibit, which highlights the unique, sculpted monuments that can be seen only in the Garden State.

The photo exhibit is open to the public during normal Branch operating hours. No registration is required.

Registration at www.theoceancountylibrary.org/events is required for Mr. Burro’s free lecture. For more information, visit the Long Beach Island Branch, 217 South Central Avenue, Surf City, or call (609) 494-2480.
