This year the Ocean County Library is returning with S.A.I.L.

Join us for the 2026 S.A.I.L. season!

The S.A.I.L. program will allow teens the opportunity to serve their community while learning, sharing, and having fun.

The volunteer program, Service and Achievement In the Library (S.A.I.L.) is offered to teens that have completed at least 7th grade and are entering 8th grade in the fall of 2026.

There are limits to the number of volunteers that can participate in S.A.I.L., so positions will fill on a first come first serve basis. Virtual options will be conducted at the discretion of the local branch teen services librarian.

Please contact your local branch teen services librarian with any concerns and questions.

To register, complete and submit the appropriate application by the branch deadline. Applications are now live!

Volunteer Services Agreement

All volunteers must agree to the following guidelines.

If selected to volunteer at the library:

S.A.I.L. is a summer volunteer program for teens that encompasses all sorts of job types - clerical work, creating displays, assisting with programs, and many other tasks that are beneficial to the library. This is a community service program that prepares volunteers for the workplace. As such, please read through the following guidelines for the S.A.I.L. program:

  • Please remember your schedule! You are expected to work on ALL days and times that you were assigned to, except in cases of illness or family emergency. Please call or email the branch if you will be absent for any session. "No-call No-Show" may result in your dismissal from the S.A.I.L. program.
  • For safety reasons, volunteers must follow a specific dress code: comfortable, work-place appropriate attire that must include a S.A.I.L. T-Shirt.  In addition, a name tag must be worn at all times. Both the T-Shirt and Nametag will be provided on the first day.
  • Please silence and put away all electronic devices (including but not limited to cell phones, gaming systems, etc.) while volunteering.
  • Since the library is a public building, it is important to extend the utmost courtesy and respect to ALL occupants including any library staff, performers, and customers. If you feel uncomfortable with an individual for any reason, please walk away and let your S.A.I.L. Coordinator, or library staff know right away!
  • Please be a positive contributor to the library and its programming! We do appreciate all that you do!

Please be aware that we will respond by email. Please check your junk/spam folder for an email from us.

If you don't receive an email in a few days, please call your branch.
